The Queen’s local representative, the Staffordshire Lord-Lieutenant, has sent a personal thank you to the Stone Helpline for their support of those in need in our town.
As the Stone Helpline moves into week twenty of its operation, it was lovely to receive this personalised message from Mr Ian Dudson, who is Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Staffordshire.
For fifteen years I’ve called Stone home and it was the community aspect of the town that drew us to settle here and it’s been a pleasure to play our part in it.
Personally, I’m incredibly proud and honoured of the work that we did in setting up the Stone Helpline, which at its peak had 200 volunteers ready to help those in need within our community.
Today we still retain in excess of 150 volunteers who are ready to support those in town residents who may be isolating or unable to get out in this current pandemic. We’re still providing phone calls, sometimes daily, to isolated and lonely residents, carrying out shopping and other tasks to help the physical and mental wellbeing of the people of Stone.
There’s no age restriction on who can use the helpline and it’s available 7 days a week, from 8am until 6pm with a team of telephone operators waiting to take calls. The helpline can be reached on 0333 230 0112 or via the website at StoneHelpline.co.uk
I’d personally like to publicly once again extend my thanks to the amazing team of volunteers, especially Lauren who is amazing and finally to Stone Town Council and the Councillors who have provided the support and funding for the telephone system that we use, as well as the thousands of leaflets that we had printed out and distributed across the town.
