Stone 1st XI chalk up first win

On a rain-affected day, three out of four of Stone’s matches were cancelled due to the bad weather on Saturday.

Stone 1st X1 not only managed to play but also secured a comfortable win.

Captain Richard Harvey won the toss and put visitors Audley into bat. Accurate pace bowling from Stone opening bowlers, Zimbabwean Calum Price and David Womble, caused havoc. Price with 4 for 26 and Womble 3 for 36 had Audley on the brink on 31 for 7. Andrew Johnson (47) started a fightback for the visitors, though, who reached 106 all out in the 55th over

Stone opener Luke Cheadle with 37 led the reply and Russell Ballard chipped in with 21. Despite the loss of four wickets it was a comfortable win and 20 points for the Lichfield Road side.

Sunday’s Kingfisher National Knockout fixture with Wombourne was postponed due to the rain and has been rearranged for this coming weekend.

On Saturday, Stone travel to local neighbours Little Stoke, whilst Neil Podmore’s Stone SP 1st X1 travel to Oakamoor. At Stone, the 2nd X1 take on Moddershall at Lichfield Road, whereas at Swynnerton Stone SP 2nd X1 play Oakamoor
