A team of fishermen from Stone have netted the gold medal at the 2015 Angling Trust Team national championships.

The ‘Casts Bag’em Matchbaits’ team successfully defended their under-23 title at the Angling Trust national championships at Larford Lakes, near Stourport on Severn, at the end of June.

The team was formed six years ago by Mark Wilton and current team captain Alex Dawson. They have been fishing the intermediate under-23 age group for the last three years, after moving up from the junior section, and have been fishing against other teams from around the country. In their first year in 2013 they won a silver medal and last year went one better and scooped the gold.

On Saturday 27th June, they defended their title, beating some of the best teams from around the UK to grab the gold again. After being pushed hard by Tameside Matrix team from Manchester, they eventually came out with a second gold medal to take the title again. There was a tie on 27 points for top spot, with Casts Bag’em Matchbaits just securing the championship with a slightly better weight aggregate of 102 kilos 700 grams.

Congratulations to all of them!
