Stone apprentices to be celebrated at county graduation

Apprentices from Stone and across Staffordshire are set to be recognised for their hard work at a special graduation ceremony this summer.

The tenth annual Staffordshire Apprenticeship Graduation will take place on Tuesday, 15th July at the County Showground in Stafford. The event brings together apprentices, their families, tutors and employers to celebrate the completion of qualifications in sectors ranging from hairdressing and accounting to engineering and adult care.

Local success stories

Among those attending is Dave Chetwynd from Tamworth, a Children and Families Practitioner with Staffordshire County Council. Dave recently completed his Level 4 apprenticeship and praised the combination of learning and on-the-job experience.

“This blend of academic learning and real-world experience is a brilliant way of becoming skilled and confident in your role,” he said. “I’ve had great support throughout and I’m really looking forward to the ceremony this summer.”

The event is open to all apprentices who have completed their training in Staffordshire this year, and bookings can be made online.

Stone business backing apprenticeships

Stone-based Capula Ltd is one of several Staffordshire businesses strongly committed to apprenticeships. The company plans to recruit 60 more apprentices over the next three years.

Steve Tellwright, Capula’s People and Quality Director, said apprenticeships are vital for building skills from the ground up.

“It’s so important that we have a steady pipeline of people with the right skills and behaviours, and apprenticeships give us that,” he said. “This graduation is a great way to celebrate and promote that journey.”

County support and continued investment

Martin Murray, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills at Staffordshire County Council, said the graduation reflects the county’s long-standing investment in young people and skills.

“Apprentices make a huge contribution to our economy,” Martin said. “A skilled local workforce helps us attract good employers and secure major investment. This year’s event is set to be one of our biggest yet.”

More than 500 apprentices started training at Staffordshire businesses in 2024 alone, and over 1,000 have taken part in the graduation since it began.
