On Tuesday the 19th of July, the Queen’s Baton Relay comes to Stone as it makes its way to Birmingham for the 2022 Commonwealth Games – here’s the route and road closure information you need to know!
The baton will be travelling from Stafford to Stone by road and will arrive at the Stone Leisure Centre shortly after 3pm.
This means that access to and from Westbridge Park, Stone Leisure Centre, M&S Foodhall, Trent Side Clinic and Crown Street, Newcastle Street and Station Road (you’ll be able to leave Station Road if you are on it due to the one-way street) will only be on foot, cycle or narrowboat!
The Baton will set off from Stone Leisure Centre, travelling up Stafford Road towards the town where it will head along Crown Street and Newcastle Street to the top of the High Street. It will then travel down Stone High Street before heading back out onto Stafford Street and then Stafford Road as the baton heads to Stafford and Stone Canoe Club where it is due to take to the water!
One of the highlights of the relay in Stone will be to see the baton spending time on the water as part of a slalom course at the Canoe Club in Stone just before 3:40pm.
In order to allow as many people to spectate at the event, and alleviate potential traffic issues, many schools in Stone will be closing early to allow parents and carers to collect children before the road closures come into force.
