Members of Stone’s branch of the Royal British Legion are set to spend a night sleeping out on Stone High Street this month as part of a fundraiser aimed at supporting veterans facing homelessness and hardship.

The event is part of The Great Tommy Sleep Out, which sees people give up the comfort of their own bed for one night to help raise money and awareness.
For those taking part in Stone, the message is simple. This is about standing in solidarity with veterans who are struggling, and helping fund practical support that can make a real difference.
A night outdoors for a bigger cause
Organisers say the sleep out is being held to highlight the reality that many veterans across the UK are still facing, including rough sleeping, poor mental health and difficulty getting back into stable housing or work.
Rather than a sponsored challenge dressed up as something fun, the Stone event is being framed as a visible show of support in the middle of the town.
Money raised from the event will go to Royal British Veterans Enterprise, known as RBVE.
The charity supports veterans with safe accommodation, mental health support, employment opportunities and a wider support network built around veterans helping other veterans.
Supporters can donate online
The Stone branch is asking residents to back the fundraiser with donations, however big or small.
In its appeal, the group says taking part is about more than raising money on the night.
This isn’t just a fundraiser – it’s a statement: we don’t leave our veterans behind.
Anyone wanting to support the fundraiser can donate through the campaign page set up for the event. Further information about the work supported by donations is also available through the Royal British Veterans Enterprise website.
Sleep outs like this do not recreate the full reality of homelessness, but organisers hope they can still help people pause and think about what some former servicemen and women are dealing with, including after their time in the forces has ended.
For Stone’s Royal British Legion branch, bringing that conversation onto the High Street also gives the community a direct way to respond.
