Nearly 100 Brownies and Leaders from Stone and Eccleshall descended on the Girlguiding Harrison campsite at Maer last weekend to help celebrate the 100th birthday of Brownies.

It was termed a ‘Brownie Revels’ (a chance for Brownies to get together and have lots of fun!). The girls enjoyed a fun-packed day of activities including a blindfold trail through the woods, a chance to play on a huge adventure playground, the making of an elephant out of recycled materials and the fast and furious skill of grass sledging that all the girls seemed to enjoy!
Rio Whittall, a Brownie with 2nd Stone Brownies, said of the grass sledging: “It was great fun and I got to push not only Brown Owl down the slope but also the Mayor, who happened to go the furthest!”
The Mayor was the Mayor of Stone, Cathy Collier, who also happens to be Stone’s District Commissioner for Girlguiding. She officially opened the event. Another special guest was Stone MP Sir Bill Cash and his wife Biddy, who dropped in to see the girls enjoying their activities and were given a tour of the extensive site. The day ended with a rousing camp fire.
The event was deemed a huge success by Sheila Slaney, Stone and Eccleshall’s Divsion Commissioner, who said: ”It was a sight to behold to see so many girls having such fun with all the different activities.”
