Stone Community Hub has stepped up its Food Bank operations in response to a ten-fold surge in demand for its services.
Emergency food parcels are now being provided to many new families facing severe financial difficulties due to the Covid-19 Emergency as well as to regular Hub clients.
Teams of staff and volunteers are working tirelessly out of the Frank Jordan Centre on Lichfield Street, preparing food parcels and organising deliveries within Stone and surrounding areas whilst conforming to Government advice on social distancing.
The new levels of demand have been met thanks to the continuing support of local businesses and generous financial donations from residents. The expanded operations have required considerably more space which has been provided free of charge by Stone Town Council.
Chair Ian Fordham said:
“The people of Stone have again shown a fantastic community spirit. The current levels of need are unprecedented and can only be met through the continuing generosity of residents and local businesses. We needed much more space to operate safely and may have been forced to suspend operations without the support of the Town Council.”
