Stone Town Council is inviting residents to contribute personal stories and World War II artefacts as part of the town’s 80th VE Day anniversary commemorations on Thursday, 8th May 2025.

The Stone Heritage Centre will be at the heart of the celebrations, curating a special exhibition that showcases local wartime memorabilia and first-hand accounts from those who experienced VE Day in 1945. The council is keen to preserve these stories, ensuring future generations understand the sacrifices and triumphs of the wartime years.
Councillor Jill Hood, Chairman of the Council’s Tourism and Town Promotion Sub-Committee, emphasised the importance of this project:
“It is important to pay tribute to those who gave their lives in World War II. We hope to mark this historic occasion by capturing many wonderful stories for our community to enjoy for years to come.
If you know anyone with a wartime story to tell or have anything that you think would be of interest to showcase at the exhibition, please get in touch.”
How you can get involved
Residents are encouraged to:
- Share personal VE Day stories: If you or someone you know has memories from VE Day 1945, the council would love to record and preserve these recollections.
- Contribute wartime artefacts: Items such as photographs, letters, uniforms, medals, or household objects from the WWII era can add depth and authenticity to the exhibition.
These contributions will help create an engaging, educational display that reflects Stone’s unique wartime heritage.
