Stone Cricket Club’s SP 1sts were held to a draw at Swynnerton by Meakins/Fenton last weekend.

John Cheadle continued his good form with a half century and James Sutton and Declan Wardell scored 41 and 43 respectively as the home side again scored heavily, reaching 256-8 off their allotted 55 overs. In reply, Meakins batted out a draw, reaching 220-7 at the close, with Evan Bradford the pick of the Stone attack with 3-20 off 7 overs. Sutton also chipped in with a couple of wickets as the home side tried to tempt the visitors into a chase.

It was a day to forget for Stone 2nds as they crumbled to 55 all out against high-flying Silverdale. Only skipper Ian Banks managed double figures as the rest of the batsmen fell to a series of poor shots assisted by some keen Silverdale fielding. The visitors lost three wickets chasing down the total with the game finishing at 4.30pm. Harry Brundrett picked up two of the wickets to fall.

Stone SP 2nd XI v JG Meakins-Fenton 2nd XI

Skipper Robert Price took his charges to sunny Fenton for their away fixture versus the newly merged JG Meakins/Fenton 2nd XI on Saturday 6th June. Price won the toss but in the process broke the spell which had thus far dictated the match result – as the match ended up in a losing draw for his side.

Put into bat, Fenton kept up a healthy run rate but lost wickets with regularity before being bowled out for 167 in the 45th over. Adam Mason smashed 87 of those runs from a mere 91 balls, in an innings that included 13 boundaries including 6 maximums, but that also provided plenty of chances for the fielding side. Mickey Chandler showed a welcome return to form with his 5 wickets for 38, with Sam Bamford marking his return from an injury with a tight opening spell yielding 2-31.

Young opener Sam Butters lead from the front in the reply with 45, his highest senior score to date. Butters was supported by Price (43) but despite an entertaining late order cameo from Aaron Pope (19) the SP 2nd XI run rate was never going to overhaul the Fenton pace, despite having fully 58 overs at their disposal. The innings ended at 8pm on the dot with Roger Foskett’s 4-43, off fully 24 overs, restricting SP 2nd XI to 139-8 and 29 runs shy of their victory target.
