Stone Faced – ‘a powerhouse English bitter’

A real ale critic who is sampling and reviewing a different bottled beer every day for a whole year has just tried Lymestone Brewery’s Stone Faced.

Last month he reviewed Foundation Stone – and loved it – and seemed to enjoy Stone Faced just as much.

In purple prose that Oz Clarke would be proud of, the Bottled Beer Year reviewer wrote:

“This is a powerhouse of an English bitter. There’s a definite SAS or Green Beret feel to the hops, which don’t so much ‘enter’ your mouth as ‘storm’ it, before taking control of your taste buds by force. I’m not kidding – the first gulps of this brew are properly ‘full-on’ experiences.

“My mouth felt like it had been grabbed by a playful grizzly bear, which then proceeded to toy with it until the drink was finished. It’s an impressive experience.”

Brilliant stuff!

Lymestone Brewery is based in the former Bents’ brewery site off Mount Road and was set up by head brewer Ian ‘Brad’ Bradford after his 18 years with Titanic.
