Stone Festival 2019 Guide

Welcome to the A Little Bit of Stone’s guide to the 2019 Stone Festival!

Stone Festival week will take place from Saturday 1st June until Sunday 9th June, however, the ever popular High Street Soapbox Derby will kick things off this bank holiday Monday!

This year, as well as the cornerstone events, there will be new events to mark the 50th anniversary with something for everyone to get involved with.

Monday 27th May (Bank Holiday)

Event: Soapbox Derby
Description: The annual wacky racers take to Stone High Street.
Location: High Street
Times: Activites from 1:30pm, racing from 2:00pm
Cost: Free for spectators, for details around entering a soapbox see HERE
Tip: Get down early to bag a space near the water jump!

Friday 31st May

Event: Fret & Fiddlehttps://fretandfiddle.co.uk/
Description: An award-winning swing quartet, check out their website to see and hear their music
Location: Christchurch
Times: 7:30pm
Cost: £10 including refreshments

Saturday 1st June

Event: Oulton Water Colour Society
Description: An exhibition of watercolour paintings produced by local artists.
Location: Oulton Village Hall, Kibbleston Road, Oulton, ST15 8UJ
Times: 10:00am
Cost: Free entry with the ability to purchase artwork

Event: The Story Book Puppet Theatre
Description: The Story Book Puppet Theatre Presents Hansel & Gretal
Location: Oulton Abbey Play Group, Kibblestone Road, Oulton, ST15 8UP
Times: Doors open 11:45am, first performance starts 12:00 Noon followed at 12:30 by a puppet making workshop. Second performance starts 2:00pm, followed at 2:30pm by a puppet making workshop
Costs: Adults £3 Child £2. Workshop(to cover materials)£2.50 per child

Sunday 2nd June

Event: Car Boot Sale
Description: A potential treasure trove of locally unwanted items!
Location: Westbridge Park
Times: Sellers can access the site at 8:00am for setup, 9:00am for buyers!
Cost: £5 per car for sellers, free for buyers!

Event: Westbridge 5 Race
Description: A 5-mile multi-terrain race starting from Westbridge Park. The race takes in the park, towpaths and lanes on a fast, flat course.
Location: Westbridge Park
Times: 9:30am

Event: Stone Rotary Festival Raft Race
Description: A chaotic paddle from the Darlaston Inn down to Westbridge Park. If you’d like to take part then application forms can be found https://www.stonefestival.co.uk/forms.html
Location: Starting at the Darlaston Inn and running down to the Walton Bridge at Westbridge Park
Times: Registration for entries from 9:00am, racing begins at 10:00am
Costs: £5 per entrant taking part, free for spectators

Event: Dog Show
Description: Taking the ruff with the smooth the annual dog show has something for everyone
Location: Westbridge Park
Times: 10:30am start

Event: Bowls Sub Final
Description: These are the final rounds of the well contested Stone Festival Annual Doubles Competition
Location: Stonefield park, Field Terrace, Stone, ST15 8HG
Times: 2:00pm
Costs: Free for spectators, £5 for competitors (per pair) with funds raised going to charity (entry forms –

Event: Junior Cricket Competition
Description: A full day of action where local junior teams will battle it out to become the Festival Champions
Location: Little Stoke Cricket Club, Uttoxeter Road, Stone, ST15 8RZ
Times: 10:00am start

Monday 3rd June

The start of the dog steeplechase

Event: Steeplechase and Dog Derby
Description: An absolute hoot of an event featuring runners, dogs, water and mud….what could possibly go wrong!
Location: Westbridge Park
Times: Registration 6:30pm, steeplechase runners 7:00pm and dog derby 7:30pm
Costs: Free for spectators, £2.50 per adult, £1.00 per under 16 year old

Tuesday 4th June

Stone walksEvent: Ramblers Health Walk TBC
Description: A great chance for a ramble around Stone
Location: Starting from Stone Canoe Club Car Park
Times: 10:45am
Costs: Free

Event: Sponsored Dog Walk
Description: This year’s walk is in aid Hearing dogs for deaf people
Location: Starting at Westbridge Park opposite M&S
Times: 6:00pm
Costs: £3 to register

Event: Two Wheeled Tuesday
Description: A real highlight of the festival calendar, if it’s got two wheels then bring it down!
Location: Stone High Street
Times: 6:30pm
Costs: Free

MeafordEvent: Angling Contest
Description: Stone & District Angling Society are hoping to hook people in
Location: Trent & Mersey canal @ Westbridge Park
Times: Draw at Scout Hut at 5:30 PM
Costs: £1 + optional £3 pool, Under 16’s Free plus free membership to fish the canal

The parade passes along Stafford Street

Event: Stone Festival Parade
Description: A procession of floats will pass through the town heading down to Westbridge Park
Location: Route starts from ABB and travels down to Westbridge Park via Christchurch Way
Times: Parade Assembley 12-12:30. Parade tarts 1:30pm from ABB, arriving at Westbridge Park from 2:30pm
Costs: Free to spectate but if you want to take part in the Parade please email parade@stonefestival.co.uk

Event: Teachers Pet Rock Show at the Lymestone Brewery
Description: It’s almost 17 years since jack black & the famous school of rock hit the big screens world wide!

Event: Family Fishing Day
Description: Get the family down and get fishing!
Location: The Willows Pools, Rough Close
Times: 10:00am – 4:00pm
Costs: Donation towards tackle and bait – There will be some tackle and bait available to newcomers, it is important that you book in advance
