Stone Festival Supports the Christopher Bond Appeal

Every year, Stone Festival raises funds for local good causes.

In September 2013, Stone festival was able to distribute nearly £5,000. This year the Festival team has decided to donate some of its emergency funds to the Christopher Bond Appeal.

Christopher Bond, 10, a student at Walton Priory School, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in October 2013, and following a long operation at Alder Hay Childrens’ Hospital he seemed to be making a full recovery until a follow up scan earlier this year revealed that the tumour was growing again.

As a result, Christopher has had to go to Oklahoma City, USA, for proton beam therapy – the only way of treating this problem.

The ten weeks of treatment is being funded by the NHS, but his parents need to pay for their own travel and accommodation. Members of the Festival team called upon Christopher and his parents a few days before they flew out to the USA and presented them with some US dollars to help cover some of the initial expenses they will have once they arrive.

Festival Chairman Andy Glover said:

“Stone Festival is a wonderful and exciting week for the Town. Excess funds are always distributed to local good causes. I could not think of a better use of funds than to help out this local family in a time of need”
