Stone Festival – What’s happening in 2021?

Stone FestivalJune is traditionally Stone Festival time, however, for 2021 the committee has still managed to put on a number of events for the people of Stone.

Tim Joyce, Vice-Chair of the Stone Festival Committee contacted A Little Bit of Stone last week to let us know what was happening for the 2021 Stone Festival.

In light of the ongoing pandemic and restrictions around mass events, the committee has arranged one physical event and a number of online activities to mark this year’s festival.

You can view the full details of events on the Stone Festival website:  www.stonefestival.co.uk/events.html but here’s an overview of what’s on!

  • A Stone Festival Art Competition, with a closing date of 13th June for online submission of entries.
  • The Stone Festival Walking Treasure Hunt.  Entrants may download the question sheet from 6th June and then have until 13th June to search for the answers (all around the centre of Stone) and submit their completed answer sheets.
  • A Historical Talk, by Steve Booth of the Stone Civic and Historical Society, entitled “Stone and the Impact of World War Two (1939 -1945)”, on the evening of Wednesday 9th June.  The talk will be delivered using “Zoom”.
  • The Stone Festival (on-line) Dog Show, comprising 10 classes, where entrants are to up-load their favourite photographs to the Festival’s Facebook page.  Entries must be submitted by Sunday 13th June.  A best-of-show will then be selected from the Class winners.
  • The Stone Festival (virtual) Quiz Night – on Sunday 13th June – again delivered via “Zoom”.

In addition, the three “houses” of the Stone and District Swimming Club held a continuous relay race on Monday 7th June.  Each house has chosen a local good cause which they would like supporters to sponsor:  The Stone Community Hub, AED Donate, and Stone Festival itself.

Due to the lack of a physical festival, fundraising has been severely hampered. If you would like to, and you’re able to, then there is a Just Giving page for donations – https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/stone-festival-and-carnival
