Stone Hammers u16 were finally crowned champions at the weekend, following their 5-0 victory over Stafford Town.
This following Shamblers loss at Cheadle South Moorlands means the side from Stone have an unassailable lead at the top of the Potteries and Junior Youth League. Another hat trick from the leagues top goalscorer Elliot Turner, and goals from Joel O’Connor, and then Nick Ellerton completed the rout.
Stone, a new side at this age group for the 2015/16 campaign under the stewardship of Chris Johnson and Tony Matthews and with strong links with Stone Old Alleynians have strung a series of fine results together in recent weeks beating Hanley town (2-0), Stafford Town again (3-1), and Crewe Town (9-0) to pull away from their rivals and confirm their place as champions.
It marks a remarkable achievement for the Stone side who were only formed last summer and had already made good progress on a number of fronts including league cup semi finalists, Sentinel Shield quarter finalists, and they reached the Quarter Finals of the Staffordshire County Cup.
Already this season, players have represented Stone Old Alleynians at Staffs County League level (2nd team) and a number of players have made the even bigger step and represented the Stone side at West Midlands Premier League level, playing for the first team. The focus on youth has helped ensure a regular pipeline of largely Stone based players going on to play for Alleynians.
