Stone Hockey Club’s 1st XI strengthened their bid for promotion from Midlands 1 with a thumping 6-2 victory at the weekend away at Old Sihillians.
Stone responded well after Sihillians took the lead from the penalty spot and in-form striker Laurence Bassett equalised with a punishing drive from the top of the D. Tom Boulton then gave Stone the lead from a well-taken short corner but the home side were back on level terms soon after when they scored from close range. Just before the break Laurence Bassett made it 3-2 to the visitors with a composed finish into the bottom corner.
Stone started the second half brightly and Tom Boulton grabbed his second goal with a reverse stick deflection after Rob Colclough’s excellent ball into the D. Stone began to dictate play and Al Platt extended their lead with a clinical reverse strike, leaving the goalkeeper no chance. The visitors created further chances and looked to attack at pace. Matt Holmes completed the scoring with a smart finish after another Stone counter attack.
The win leaves Stone in second place, four points behind Stourport.
