Stone in Bloom will launch its 2011 Heart of England in Bloom competition campaign at a special event on Saturday 2nd April – and everyone in the town is invited to get involved.
The campaign launch will be held at St Dominic’s Social Centre in Station Road at 7.30pm.
The Royal Horticultural Society’s In Bloom competition is one of the largest horticultural campaigns in Europe and Stone in Bloom’s working group hopes to add to previous years’ successes in winning yet another gold in the large town category this year.
This year the Stone in Bloom group will try to impress the judges with a diverse range of community projects ranging from litter picking, a Best Garden competition, Best School Garden competition and sustainable environmental planting of wild flowers on the Crown Meadow.
The Stone in Bloom working group are proud of the strong link forged over the past three years with Stafford Borough Council’s Streetscene team and County Highways, who are tireless in their work to improve the town.
This year at the launch, the group will announce their new Friends of Stone in Bloom initiative.
Chairman Antony Lucas said: “The generosity of the Stone traders and businesses offering discounts to the Friends of Stone in Bloom has been overwhelming. Out of those asked only three declined to participate.”
You don’t have to be good at gardening to take part, but enthusiasm and a sense of civic pride does help. Join in the fun of the launch on Saturday 2nd April at 7.30pm at St Dominic’s Centre.
Following a short presentation a hot supper will be served. Entrance is free. Further details are available from Stone in Bloom secretary Jill Hood on 07736 413097.
