Stone Dominoes Ladies 7 – Leek CSOB Ladies 0: Second placed Stone continued to pile the pressure on league leaders Shrewsbury with yet another high-scoring win, this time against Leek CSOB Ladies.
In very cold conditions and on a boggy pitch, both teams battled hard. The goals soon started to come for Stone with Laura Barker, Lydia Bennion, Vikki Garner and Mollie Prime all scoring in the first half. More chances came but the Leek keeper was playing well to keep the score down to 4-0.
Half time saw a quick turn-around and the Dominoes came out again stronger and more goals came from Vikki Garner, netting her second of the game, and Holly Fowell with a header in from a Kerry McCourt corner. The 7th goal was an own goal hitting the Leek defender from another quality cross in from the left-hand side.
Leek who are 11th in the table have improved dramatically from last year and played some good passing football at times but Stone’s quality shone through. Player of the match was Lydia Bennion for an outstanding performance on the right wing.
