On Tuesday 7th October Stone Lions Club held what has now become an annual event – their “Walk for Sight”.
The event was part of the Lions’ International Sight Awareness Week, organised by district officer for sight, John Sanders.
Mayor of Stone Councillor Cathy Collier joined the Lions as a blindfolded member of the walk and was accompanied by Lion President Rod Niven and various other walkers from the town. The club were also pleased to have the company of Lions District Governor Carole Godden from Stoke-on-Trent Lions, who joined them for the walk.
Mike Potter from Stone Lions said: “On a cold autumn morning the walk progressed through the town, visiting both Peter Bowers and Nusyte opticians. Collection boxes are located in both premises for any unwanted spectacles. Over the years, many thousands of specs have been passed on for sorting by Chichester Lions and then on for worldwide distribution. Many thanks go to all who have donated their unwanted glasses, and please keep them coming. Hearing aids would also be appreciated.”
