Stone logistics company provides essential support to Stone Food Bank

Stone logistics company, Drac, have committed to a weekly food shop to ensure the Stone Community Hub ran food bank is stocked with essential basic supplies.

Founded on Stone High Street and now residing in Stone Business Park, Drac handles the transport of cargo by sea, air, and road in both an import and export capacity.

Drac wanted to give back to the local community, so helping Stone Community Hub with their Stone Food Bank seemed a great way to give back.

An employee of Drac, Sophie Hayes told A Little Bit of Stone:

“With new economical challenges coming, and already such a high number of people using food hubs, we as a company have committed to a weekly food shop. The shop is aimed at keeping the food hub stocked with basic necessities which can be distributed by the hub to people in Stone.”

In 2020 Drac moved into office space within a brand new 31,000 sq ft facility based at Opal Way, Stone Industrial Estate.

Drac offers International, UK and European Distribution, Storage and Handling solutions, and they had the pleasure of Jane Harding, Manager of Stone Community Hub, visiting the office recently.

Stone Community Hub acts as a resource for people living in Stone and the nearby vicinity. It does this by providing advice and assistance and organising programmes and other activities as a means of:

  • Advancing in life and helping people by developing their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as independent, mature and responsible individuals;
  • Advancing education;
  • Providing recreational and leisure time activity in the interests of social welfare for people living in the area of benefit who have needs because of their age, infirmity or disability, poverty or social and economic circumstances with a view to improving the conditions of life of such persons.

Stone Community Hub is a registered charity dedicated to improving the lives of residents of Stone and surrounding villages through support and advice.

Activities provided fall into two main areas:

  • Combating social isolation – drop-in Centre, people to talk to, crafting & refreshments
  • Reducing poverty and its effects – advice Centre, and job club.

Jane Harding, Manager of Stone Community Hub, told A Little Bit of Stone:

“We continue to run our Food Bank, meeting a huge increase in demand, and keep in touch with clients old and new by telephone, email, social media and in person.

The support we receive from Drac aids the charity’s sustainability, in these uncertain times, ensuring that people in our Stone community are able to stay healthy and be supported when needed. With ever-rising fuel bills, the situation is inevitably going to get worse and organisations like Drac that give back to the local communities are really playing a big part.”
