New Stone town mayor Cathy Collier will be writing a regular guest blog for A Little Bit of Stone, just like her predecessor Jill Piggott. Many thanks Cathy…

Well, it’s goodbye from Jill and hello from me, Cathy Collier, the new Stone Town Mayor. I was so impressed with Jill’s blog that I have decided to continue it to give readers an insight into what we get up to.

It all started on May the 8th when Jill and Cliff handed over the reins to myself and Geoff to carry on her good work.

Friday May 9th we were off to Oulton Village Hall to open a fundraising event for Age Concern. This was fun evening with a quiz, music by Bob Black, who gave his services free of charge, and a fish and chip supper raising £300 for the charity.

Saturday May 10th started with Stafford Borough Mayor Making at the Gatehouse and then a Church service at St Mary’s, followed by a march past of many uniformed organisations and the a reception afterwards. That evening Geoff and I, Sue, my Deputy, and Mike Shaw and Jill and Cliff all went off the Ashbourne Mayor’s civic diner and disco. This was a lovely evening meeting new people with good food, good music and good company and Jill was able to catch up with old friends. On Sunday 11th I had a Girl Guide training course all day, normal, everyday life still has to go on!

My next engagement was Friday 16th, joining Rotary at the Stonehouse Hotel to celebrate 75 years of Rotary in Stone. It is amazing what you discover goes on in our community. Rotary have achieved so much over their 75 years and I nervously had to give thanks on behalf of the guests.

The following day, Saturday 17th, was the AGM of the Stone Scout and Guide band. These are wonderful group of youngsters and adults, who all work very hard practising and performing at various events. Later Geoff and I and our Labrador Tessa went to the Midfield to the Fun Dog Show. Tessa came away with three rosettes and was feeling very proud of herself. All dogs and adults were well behaved and raised £207 for Guide Dogs for the Blind, which is one of my charities for my year in office, as well as Stone Guides and Scouts, Stone Stroke Club and Stone Alzeimer’s Drop-in.

It has certainly not been a boring first month! It is amazing just what goes on in this Town of Stone. Well, that’s all for now but watch this space for more blog posts.
