Inspired by lockdown fundraisers across the country during the pandemic, Oliver Hodson (9) of Christ Church First School in Stone decided the time had come for him to do some fundraising of his own.
Having never set foot on a mountain, he aims to reach the summit of Mount Snowdon during the Easter holidays to raise money for the Donna Louise Trust, a charity chosen by him because they help children in the local area.
Oliver initially set out to raise £250 for the charity, but he is revising his target with each passing week as he hits his targets! The amount pledged currently stands at over £430, and he hopes to raise more as he edges closer to ‘Challenge Day’.
Oliver decided a trek up Mount Snowdon as he wanted to do something that was a big challenge. He also wanted to do something that meant he’d have to stop playing video games all the time! Hoping to inspire other children to take up charitable pledges, Oliver admits that he will find the challenge ‘tough’, but he’s keen to overcome adversity to raise much-needed funds for the Donna Louise Trust.
‘A big thank you’ are Oliver’s words to those people who have already helped him to smash his original target, and he says he’ll be thinking about those people when he’s struggling on his trek. ‘I don’t want to let anyone down’, he says.
With no experience of climbing mountains whatsoever, Oliver’s supporters can rest assured that he is taking his task very seriously. Regular long-distance walks with mum and dad – who couldn’t be prouder of his determination and thoughtfulness – and George the dog have been a regular feature of Oliver’s weekends as he seeks to build stamina to make his challenge a success.
Anyone who wishes to support Oliver on his quest and donate towards the Donna Louise Trust can do so on his GoFundMe page here: GoFundMe – Oliver Hodson takes on Mount Snowdon.
He’s hoping that donations – like him – will be going sky high!
