Stone’s London 2012 canoeist Lizzie Neave will be writing a special blog for A Little Bit of Stone in the build-up to her appearance at the Games later this year.
Lizzie, who qualified for the Team GB canoe slalom team at the recent national trials, is a member of Stafford and Stone Canoe Club, where her dad Andy coached her from a young age.
Her blog posts for the site will show us her final preparations for London 2012, something she’s been preparing for solidly for the last four years.
Lizzie said: “It’s been fantastic to hear about all the support and good wishes from people in Stone. It’s where I first started the sport and a lot of my family and friends are in the town. My dad is just ecstatic. He still coaches at the club in Stone and he’s so happy that a member will be at the Olympics this year. The fact I’m his daughter just makes it much more special.
“There have been four years of solid preparation and competition to get me into the Olympic Games. For a couple of days I was numb. When you’ve spent so long working towards something and then you suddenly get it, it’s a bit strange. I’ve come to terms with it now and I’m just so, so excited.”
Watch out for Lizzie’s posts for the site! She has competitions in Europe in the next few weeks before her London 2012 preparation begins in earnest.
