Leading Stone performing arts school, Rooftop Studios, is set to hold open auditions on Saturday 18th January for two shows set to run at The Rep Theatre in Stoke-on-Trent in September 2020.
The auditions will offer local youngsters – be they seasoned performers or completely new to the stage – the chance to join either the Junior Stage Academy production of Madagascar or the Senior Stage Academy production of Little Shop of Horrors. Successful auditionees will need to join the Stage Academy class relevant to their age group and attend Saturday classes in the purpose-built studio above the High Street arcade, where they’ll hone skills in acting, singing and dancing guided by teachers who are all professional performers in their own right. Studio Director, Laura Keeling, says:
“Our 2018 production of ELF saw both Junior and Senior Stage Academies perform in the same show, but this year juniors have really been working hard on their tech term and deserved to have their own show where they could take the principal roles instead of supporting the seniors in their show. It’s tough on the creative team as we have to work two separate shows with their own costumes, scenery, technical cues etc into one week – but we’re never shy of hard work to get the best from our students!
“It also creates an ideal opportunity for new members to come into the academy and join the cast – there will be plenty of roles to fill and it would be great to see some new faces coming along to the auditions – it doesn’t matter if you’ve never sung or danced before, as we’re all about nurturing raw talent!”
Workshops and Auditions for Madagascar and Little Shop of Horrors will take place on Saturday 18th January 2020, rehearsals will start immediately after this and show week set for September 20th-26th 2020.
