Stone Pool League teams turn to knockout action

Last week saw the teams from the Stone Pool League in cup action in the first round of The Griffin’s Butchers Gold Cup.

Here’s a round-up of all the action in the competition sponsored by Griffins of Stone in Adie’s Alley…

Stone Pool League

Lamb Phall 0-4 Little Stoke

Little Stoke entertained Lamb Phall in a reverse of the opening league fixture of the season. Little Stoke kept up their 100% start with Dan Kocyigit taking the opening frame before Lee Walker chalked up the first eight-ball clearance of the year. Further wins from captain Nick Griffin and Russ Britton saw Little Stoke comfortably through to the quarter finals.

#Jokaz 2-4 Lamb Hot Pots

Hot Pots were quickly out of the blocks, going 2-0 up through Ben Smith and Ian Grieve. Phil Ratherham and Justin Kirkham pegged them back to two a piece, before Alan Pinkstone gave The Lamb side the advantage going into the doubles. Hot Pots went with their singles winners, Smith and Grieve in the opening doubles game and their win was enough to see Hot Pots through to the quarter finals.

Cuckoo 1-4 Stone Cricket Club

Stone Cricket Club breezed into the quarter finals with a convincing win over Cuckoo. Wins from George Hawbrook, Andrew Moreton, Chris Banks, and Johnny Cheadle, giving Stone a home tie v Lamb Hot Pots in the next round.

Joker 4-1 Longton Cricket Club

Joker bounced back from last week’s league defeat with an impressive win over Longton Snooker Club in their campaign to retain the trophy that they won in 2015. Gaz Cummings got the ball rolling with a win over Rich Lewis.Last year’s top ranked player Melvin Archer winning the frame that secured a home tie versus Moddershall in the next round. Nick Backhouse won Longton Snooker’s consolation frame.

Labour in Vain 0-4 Moddershall

Moddershall’s improved squad saw them take the spoils in a one-sided affair in Yarnfield. Captain Mark Bradshaw saw Moddershall go 1-0 up,before Shaun Brian and Duncan Christer stretched Moddershall’s lead to 3-0. New addition and in form Neil Rowley completed the rout.

Langtry’s 2-4 Lamb ‘A’

Lamb ‘A’ again had a first half wobble before a strong finish to secure their place in the next round. Dave Clift made in 7 from 7 for season toput Lamb 1-0 up, before Chris Tinsley put Langtry’s 2-1 up. Paul Loughhead and Andy Conner put Lamb back in front and Conner, partnered by Paul Knight in the doubles saw Lamb ‘A’ home.

Longton Cricket Club 4-3 Eccleshall Eagles

The closest tie of the round saw Eccleshall Eagles edged out by Longton Cricket Club in the deciding frame. Eccleshall were never in front as Longton’s Ryan Kenny took the opener. Longton led 3 times by the odd frame and each time The Eagles pulled back level. Kenny and Matty Moores took the honours in the decider to see Longton through.

Talbot 0-4 Lamb

A strong Lamb side saw them steamroller their way to a whitewash over new boys Talbot with John Grobnik, Brendan Ruttledge, Simon Key and Gav Davies all winning. Lamb now travel to Little Stoke in the quarter final with what promises to be the tie of the round.

Five players now have won all seven of their league and cup matches this season: Melvin Archer, Dave ‘Dopper’ Clift, Leigh Marshall and Lee Walker.
