The Co-operative and Post Office have now confirmed the dates on which they will both be closing in Stone.
Stone Post Office
The Post Office has confirmed that that the facility currently housed in the Co-op will be closed from Saturday 13th January 2018. In a letter sent to Stone Town Council the Post Office refer to the closure as “temporary” although there’s no further details provided about how long the closure could be and what alternative arrangements can be made.
The Post Office is currently ran as franchise by the Co-op so a new franchisee would need to be found with a suitably sized and suitably profitable business, to date none have been identified. Both Sir Bill Cash MP and Stone Town Council have been in correspondence with the Post Office and a special General Purpose Committee meeting has been scheduled for 14th December to see what the town council can do to help users access nearby post offices in the interim.

Co-Op Stone High Street
Co-op staff have now confirmed that they’ll be closed from Saturday 20th January 2018 when the building will be handed back to the landlord of the property.
The Future
The landlord has been very pro-active in trying to find new tenants for the building so we’re hopeful that we’ll be able to bring you some positive news soon about the site.
Since the beginning of the year the town has really lifted with new businesses moving in to it, as well as a general increase in the presentation of the town centre shops. We hope that this continues throughout 2018 and that the few remaining empty retail units are let.
