Post Office CounterStone Post Office will re-open at its new location on the 15th October, operating a six day a week service

Post Office Limited has today issued details of the new Post Office opening up on Stone High Street.

The new Post Office will be open in the former Stone Pharmacy building at 5-7 High Street, Stone and will restore postal services to the town after an almost ten months absence.

Work will get underway shortly to refurbish the empty premises. The refurbishment will transform the space to a modern open-plan retail environment, incorporating the Post Office as well as a card and stationery shop.

The Stone Post Office will be one of the Post Office’s new-style main branches where Post Office services are delivered from three counters – one full-screen, one open-plan and another open-plan till alongside the retail counter.

Stone Post Office will be open for 48 hours each week, opening six days.

The opening hours of the new Post Office will be:

  • Monday 9 am – 5:30 pm
  • Tuesday 9 am – 5:30 pm
  • Wednesday 9 am – 5:30 pm
  • Thursday 9 am – 5:30 pm
  • Friday 9 am – 5:30 pm
  • Saturday 9 am – 2:30 pm

The new post office will offer a wide range of Post Office services including banking services for personal and small business customers.

The previous Stone branch closed in January 2018 when the Postmaster resigned following the closure of the Co-Op where the branch had operated.

With a desire from all parties to restore services to Stone as soon as possible, Post Office Ltd has decided to go ahead with their plans to re-open a branch. We are delighted therefore to announce that the opening is due to take place at 1 pm on Monday 15th October 2018.

Currently, the nearest alternative branches include Yarnfield and Barlaston. Also, a free Post Office bus service is also organised by Stone Town Council.

The Post Office is inviting customers and interested parties to give their views on the plan. Post Office Ltd would like to receive feedback on any issues customers would like considered. The consultation will close on 19 September. Customers can share their views during the consultation online at postofficeviews.co.uk with the branch code 391238.

Submissions can also be made via email to comments@postoffice.co.uk, by post to Freepost YOUR COMMENTS, or by telephone 03452 66 01 15 or Textphone 03457 22 33 55.

On the news of the Post Office re-opening date Rob Kenney, Stone Independents Town Councillor said:

“This is the final phase before the return of the Post Office to Stone and it’s great news that we have been given an opening date.

The Post Office has been missed and I’m pleased to have been involved in its most welcome return. Stone Independent councillors instigated the help given to the Post Office in finding a new location and the support of a Post Office bus to help residents to reach local Post Offices each week when the Co Op post office closed.

We will continue to support the new Post Master and his team and wish them a fantastic future in Stone. “

I have been bullied by a visitor to Stone because he thought we were big enough to have a Post Office not a piddling little village I was quite scared of his attitude towards me .So I for one will be grateful to have one again. For a market town we should never have been without one .So thank you for opening one again
