Stone Potters fans head for the Britannia by narrowboat

A group of Stone Stoke City supporters will be travelling to the Britannia Stadium in style on Saturday – by narrowboat!

The Daydream Canal Trips narrowboat

Daydream Canal Trips are running their second Britannia special for the clash with West Ham at the weekend. Their narrowboat leaves the Whitebridge Estate on Saturday at 9am and arrives at the Brit – on the canal under the Sideway footbridge – at noon. Beer and bacon and sausage butties are available on the three-hour journey down the Trent and Mersey.

And the unusual form of footie transport has caught the attention of the local media. Radio Stoke will be broadcasting live from the narrowboat on Saturday in their build-up to the big match.

Daydream owner David Wynne said: “We did the journey to the Britannia for the first home game of the season against Spurs, mainly because lots of Stoke fans were asking us to do it to be honest. It was a great success, so we’re doing it again! Most of the supporters are from Stone but we do get some fans travelling into the town to enjoy the journey to the Brit. It’s a really unusual, and relaxing way, to travel to the big match.”

There are a few tickets left – costing just £6 – for Saturday’s journey. Call Daydream Canal Trips on 01785 811321 or 07850 678315. The next narrowboat trip to the Brit is for the Blackburn Rovers match on Saturday 2nd October.
