St. George’s Day festivities are back in Stone as the town council prepares to host a fun-filled event featuring medieval knights on Saturday, the 22nd of April 2023.
Stone High Street will be bustling with excitement as Saint George leads the parade from the town council’s offices on Station Road (opposite the side of Wetherspoons) at 12:00pm, with children encouraged to come along and participate. Upon arriving in Stone’s Market Square, the Black Knights will challenge Saint George and his troops in a spectacle that will have the crowd cheering on.
Delve into the history of medieval weaponry with a hands-on experience led by the knights themselves, who will be available to talk about their equipment. Children can join in the fun by dressing up in their best knight, damsel or dragon costume for a chance to win a £25 prize in the fancy dress competition.
In addition to the medieval-themed event, there will also be the usual town market at the upper end of the High Street.
Councillor Jill Hood, Chairman of the Council’s Tourism and Town Promotion Sub-Committee, said:
“Cheer for Saint George as he battles for England against the Black Knights in this popular event in the Market Square, and bring your children dressed as knights, damsels or dragons to get into the spirit of the event and possibly win a prize”.
