Stone residents invited to sign up for new community learning courses

Adults in Stone are being encouraged to take a look at a fresh programme of community learning courses now open for enrolment across Staffordshire.

Community Learning

The new offer, run by Staffordshire County Council’s Community Learning Service, is aimed at people aged 19 and over and includes a mix of free and low cost courses, with sessions available online and in community venues across the county.

What is on offer

The latest programme covers a broad range of subjects.

That includes digital skills, English and maths, wellbeing, nature based learning, family learning, creative courses and practical life skills. The council says the courses are designed to help people build confidence, improve wellbeing and, for some, take a step towards work or further learning.

For people in Stone, the scheme could appeal to anyone wanting to sharpen up their computer skills, try something different, or ease themselves back into learning without committing to a full time college course.

Some courses are delivered online, which may make them easier to access from home, while others are held in community settings around Staffordshire. The county council says the service works with local partners to make the courses welcoming and flexible.

A route back into learning

Community learning is often less about formal classrooms and more about confidence.

For some adults, especially those who have been out of education for years, that first step can be the hardest. The county council says the programme is intended to support residents whether they want to improve job prospects, gain practical day to day skills or simply try something new.

Robin Hall, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills, said:

“Community learning is about more than courses, it’s about giving people the confidence, skills and opportunities to move forward.

“This programme is designed to be accessible and practical, whether someone is looking to improve their job prospects, build digital skills, or simply take that first step back into learning.

“We want to make sure that opportunity is there for everyone, in every part of Staffordshire.”

How to find out more

Full details of the new programme, including eligibility and enrolment information, are available through Staffordshire County Council’s Community Learning pages.

The council says the courses are open to Staffordshire residents aged 19 and over, with a wide range of free or low cost options available across the year. For Stone residents thinking about picking up a new skill, or returning to learning after a long gap, it is another countywide offer now open.
