Stone Town Council are currently putting together their official plans for a town-wide marking of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this summer, but Stone residents can take up the offer of a free road closure if they are planning their own celebrations.
Stafford Borough Council announced earlier this month it would be waiving fees for residents who wanted their street closed so they can hold parties safely in their community.
Since that announcement, a handful of requests have already been received from members of the public keen to throw celebrations in June for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth ll – the first monarch to have been on the throne for seven decades.
Councillor Carolyn Trowbridge, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said:
“I remember as a young girl the amazing atmosphere and smiles on the faces as families and neighbours came together in their own streets to hold parties to celebrate Her Majesty’s Silver Jubilee in 1977.
“Wouldn’t it be lovely if these scenes could be recreated in lots of areas across the borough? And it is great to see people are already taking us up on the free road closure offer to ensure they can have a safe party in their street with neighbours.”
You can find more details about how to apply for a road closure – including an online form – from Road Closures for Events | Stafford Borough Council (staffordbc.gov.uk)

Stone Town Council are expected to announce their plans shortly for their official celebrations for this once in a lifetime event, we’ll bring you those details as soon as we have them.
