
The annual Stafford and District Secondary Schools Cross Country Race took place during late October.
The event organised by the Stafford and Stone School Sport Partnership was held in conjunction with Stafford Grammar School. A fantastic turnout of over 400 runners raced around the fields at Stafford Grammar in perfect conditions.
Walton Priory Middle School proved dominant in the Year 7 race by winning both the boys and girls teams events.
Individual winner in the boys race was James Boote from Christ Church Academy and Isabelle Kelly from King Edward VI took the girls title.
Year 8/9 honours went to Christ Church Academy in the Boys race with Ollie Coleman from Alleynes Academy taking 1st place individually. Walton High dominated the girls race with 5 runners in the top 10 places. Rachel Jones, also from Walton High was the individual champion with team mate Molly Shermer close behind in 2nd.
King Edward VI proved a strong outfit in the Year 10/11 boys race. Four of their team filled the top twelve places and Country runner Ryan Ashforth raced to victory. The girls race proved a tighter affair with the Stafford Grammar team edging first place from King Edward VI. Ellie Baxter from Blessed William Howard Catholic School was a clear individual winner.
A an excellent number of runners in the Senior races saw King Edward VI become team champions in both the boys and girls races. Individual honours went to Billy Thorley from Stafford Grammar and Kate Pilling from King Edward VI.
Those runners finishing in the top 12 were all selected to compete for Stafford District team in the upcoming county champions (February 2014).
