Stone Hockey Club’s 1st XI continued their fine form with a 6-1 win away at Telford & Wrekin.

The visitors started the game strongly and Laurence Bassett opened the scoring with a calm finish into the top corner from a tight angle after Stone had attacked at pace down the right. Stone continued to dominate the early exchanges and Matt Holmes made it 2-0 with a composed finish following a skilful run from right-back Jack Parker. Al Platt extended Stone’s lead midway through the half with a clinical strike and the visitors looked comfortable. However, Telford began to enjoy more possession and Stone’s goalkeeper Mark Azram made some fine saves before the home team obtained a foothold in the game when they scored a well-worked goal just before the break to make it 3-1.

Stone found their rhythm again quickly in the second half and Al Platt grabbed his second after a slick counter attack had penetrated Telford’s defence. The visitors continued to create chances and leading scorer John Allchin netted with a trademark drag flick from the top of the D. Allchin then completed the scoring late on from the penalty spot after Matt Holmes had been felled by Telford’s goa keeper when through on goal.
