Seventeen-year-old Jacob Arnold, a sixth former at Stone’s Alleyne’s Academy, was propelled into the political spotlight after asking top BBC political correspondent Laura Kuenssberg for a selfie.
Jacob was attending the Labour party conference in Brighton as the youth delegate from Stone Constituency Labour Party.
Shortly after the cheeky selfie, the podcast team contacted Jacob and invited him onto Laura and Adam Fleming’s daily podcast ‘Newscast’ for two days running!
It was a short “walk-on part” for his first appearance, but Jacob helped open the episode on the second day, speaking for three minutes. On the second podcast, Adam described Jacob as “the new Newscast celebrity” as Jacob described his meeting with Lisa Nandy, Labour’s shadow foreign secretary and mixing with other delegates at the conference:
“I was very pleased to meet Laura and Adam, and really chuffed d when then asked me to take part in their programme. They wanted to get a young persons’ view of the conference”, he said.
