Stone SP cricket round-up

Stone this week travelled to Knypersley, where Richard Harvey won the toss and put their hosts into bat.

Two wickets apiece for Calum Price and George Hawbrook had Knypersley struggling on 49 for 4. But Paul Goodwin (61) and Phil Dutton (65) came to the rescue and helped their side recover to 177 without further loss at the close.

Stone lost James Dawson early, then Harvey (41) and Luke Cheadle (51) put Stone in a strong position on 88 for 2.

At 139 for 4 Stone looked well on for victory, but a clatter of 5 wickets for just 7 runs had them in deep trouble.

Liam Hickey and Matt Coxon hung on at the end to help them earn a draw.

Stone slip to 8th in the table as they welcome Porthill Park to Lichfield Road this week.

Stone SP 1st’s on receiving end at Church Eaton

After Losing the toss and being put in at Church Eaton, Neil Podmore’s side failed to take the initiative. On a difficult batting track, Stone only managed 128 of their 55 overs. Adrian Butters (37) and Dylan Davies (36) were the only batsmen who really troubled the scorer.

In reply, Church Eaton found runs easier to come by, with Chris Le Maistre (42) and Matt White (36) top scoring. The hosts crossed the line in the 35th over.

Stone SP this week welcome Moddershall A to Swynnerton.

Stone 2nd’s good form continues

Stone 2nd’s continued their excellent start to the season with victory against Knypersley. Stone batted first and scored 137, with Ian Banks scoring a half century to top the scoring. In reply, the visitors were dismissed for 118, with 4 wickets apiece for Andy Slee and Paul Minshall.

Youngsters lead the way for Stone SP 2nd’s

Not for the first time this season it was the young guns who starred for the Stone SP 2nd X1. Playing Church Eaton at Swynnerton Park, the visitors batted first and despite an excellent 80 for Neil Archer, it was the young Stone bowlers who took control – 17 year olds Ashley Jones 3 for 44 and Declan Wardell 2 for 14 were pick of the bowlers.

Church Eaton closed their innings on 178 for 7. In reply, Richard Chandler’s wicket was lost early and then Wardell added to his wicket haul with a patient 55. At the other end fellow junior Matt Hubbart struck a magnificent undefeated 102.

This was an encouraging victory setting them up for this weeks fixture away at Moddershall.

Twenty 20 tournament gets under way

On Sunday, Stone 1st’s travelled to Moddershall for the first round of the league Twenty 20 tournament, with their first match against Meir Heath Fenton.

Stone batted first scoring 139, with James Ecclestone top scoring with 35. In reply, Meir Heath Fenton fell short on 80, Matt Coxon with 2 for 13 being pick of the bowlers.

In the second match, the opposition were Moddershall. Moddershall were restricted to 80, with Calum Price picking up 4 for 22 and Coxon 3 for 5. In reply, Stone were in deep trouble on 15 for 4, with Shaukat Bashir taking 4 for 12.James Dawson then took control with a not out 26 to help his side cross the line.

Stone now welcome Burslem and Cheadle to the second round on Sunday 10th June.
