A walker completing the John O’Groats to Lands End walk after tragedy struck en route last year will be pausing for the night in Stone this weekend.
Peter Richardson started his walk last September raising money for Guide Dogs for the Blind, and got as far as Blackford (Perth), Scotland when his brother and walking partner passed away suddenly in his sleep from a heart attack two weeks into the journey.
Peter raised £2,600 for Guide Dogs For The Blind and £2,300 for Place 2 Be, a charity for a children’s mental health last year, and decided to continue his attempt on the anniversary of brother Brian’s death this year, with proceeds now going to British Heart Foundation in his honour.
Starting on the 16th September, Peter still had 687 miles of the 950 mile walk to do, and will make it into Stone, in his home county of Staffordshire, for the overnight rest on Friday evening (4th October). He will continue Saturday, with members of his family joining him later in the day to walk from Stafford to Penkridge.
Niece Debbie Richardson said; “It came as such a shock to us last year when we lost Uncle Brian so suddenly. He was accompanying Uncle Pete, walking most days with him and he would be so pleased to know that Peter is going back to complete the task they started together.”
“The whole family are incredibly proud, and I’m looking forward to sharing a small part of his journey with him on Saturday.”
