Stone teenager Jess Adams has earned an opportunity to compete with the England under 16 rounders squad in oversees fixtures.
Fifteen year old Jess, who attends Stafford Grammar School, joins a national line up of 30 players. Seeing off competitors from around the country at trials in Northamptonshire, Jess has been brought into the side for her batting prowess but she is also expected to play a fielding role between second and third base.
“I’m so happy to have been selected and it will be a real honour to represent England. Rounders is a sport where you not only work as a team, but as an individual too and I like that. I’m looking forward to the matches – particularly the away ones because I enjoy travelling and seeing new places,” said Jess.
Fixture schedules for the four female sides from under 14’s through to seniors will be announced shortly, expected to include tournaments at home, ties against Wales and the Isle of Man and the possibility of trips to Greece and Dubai.
The SGS batter’s best match score stands at 8.5, and she has chalked up 15.5 rounders in practice. At a pre-season training camp in Northants recently, Jess joined national squad members for sessions on fitness, skills and tactics. More camps are scheduled during the winter.
