Stone top of the league after another fine win

Stone Dominoes LFC

Stone Dominoes Ladies 5 – Brereton Town Ladies 1: Stone Dominoes LFC rose to the top of the league after another comprehensive victory. With Shrewsbury’s match called off at the weekend, Stone are sitting at the top of the table for the first time this season.

Despite recording another victory and leapfrogging Shrewsbury, Stone started slowly in this match and were second to every ball. And they had to come from behind after Brereton took the lead after 10 minutes. From this point, though, Stone woke up and began to create chances and soon were on top of the game. Strikers Mollie Prime and Vikki Garner both had chances but both shots were straight at the keeper. More chances came and both Garner and Prime set each other up and both netted to give the lead to Dominoes, both goals being dinked over the keeper’s head. The game began to get a bit scrappy and with the wet pitch, tackles were flying in everywhere.

During the break the referee was close to calling the match off due to the heavy rain, however it had soon stopped and the second half kicked off after a small delay. The Dominoes were playing some great football considering the conditions and with Nat Price sat in the holding role, Lauren Ward was able to push forward and net twice, taking the score to 4-1. Hannah Waffle came off the bench and made a big impact, creating chances for Mollie Prime.

Vikki Garner rounded up the scoring with a scooped shot over the keeper’s head making it 5-1. This was her fifth goal in a row where she has dinked it over the keeper. Player of the match was Mollie Prime who once again caused havoc for the Brereton defence. The Ladies are now top of the league as league leaders Shrewsbury’s match was called off. This weekend the Ladies are in cup action against Bradwell FC in the quarter-finals of the Staffordshire County League Cup.
