The Conservative Party has controlled Stone Town Council for the past four years and is looking to maintain its majority in the town council elections on 7th May. Here are the party’s manifesto pledges for the town council campaign…

[dropcap]W[/dropcap]e will take over the youth and community centre and re-dedicate it to the town as a sports and community centre and preserve its use for the three schools and the after-school groups. Why not visit the centre and see for yourself the incredible sports barn?

We will complete our local Neighbourhood Plan. No more looking over your shoulder worrying whether a housing development will happen next door or at the bottom of your garden. Our plan will protect Stone from greedy developers. As we have done in the past, we will fight to defend the value of your home.

We promise not to increase your Council Tax over the next four years (unless the Government compels us to do this). We take the care of your money VERY seriously. WE WILL NOT waste it. In 2006, under their control, the other parties increased your Council Tax by a massive 25% and earlier THIS YEAR the Independents proposed a massive increase in council spending which would have increased your Council Tax by six times the rate of inflation. Fortunately, the majority Conservative group voted down this unbelievable action.

We will invest in the town for the benefit of all, the £100,000 taken from you in 2008 by the Council at that time for a development scheme which never happened. Lend us your hand and we’ll not put up any longer with delaying tactics from other parties.

What we’ve achieved over the past four years of Conservative control:

  • We promised not to reduce your Council Tax. We’ve actually reduced it
  • We asked Stafford Borough Council to invest in Stone. They’ve announced a major leisure development on Westbridge Park
  • We asked Network Rail to bring Stone station back into full use. Now you can catch direct trains to London and connect to Manchester and Birmingham
  • We promised to tackle parking problems. We have continued to provide Northesk Street and the Wharf free of charge car parks
  • We asked the county council to keep the town bus services. They agreed.
