Stone Town Promotion Group launches “Reasons to be cheerful” campaign

Reasons to be cheerful

The Stone Town Promotion Group, an advisory group reporting in to Stone Town Council that comprises Stone Town Councillors and local Stone business people and groups, are today launching their “Reasons to be cheerful” campaign.

The four-week campaign is a countdown to the start of a safe and secure re-opening of Stone businesses in line with the Government’s covid roadmap.

Provided the government data supports it, April 12th is a major milestone for Stone businesses and services, with many being able to open including:

  • All shops allowed to open, along with close-contact services, including hairdressers and beauty salons (including those providing services in people’s homes)
  • Restaurants and pubs will be allowed to serve food and alcohol to customers sitting outdoors
  • Gyms and spas can reopen, as can zoos, theme parks, libraries and community centres
  • Members of the same household can take a holiday in the UK in self-contained accommodation
  • Weddings attended by up to 15 people can take place

Many Stone businesses have been updating their shops, dressing their windows and once again putting back in place their excellent Covid precautions so that residents and visitors to the town can return safely.

Each week in the run-up to the 12th April, we will be focussing on a different aspect of Stone as we aim our focus on what Stone has to offer and why despite the pandemic we have “Reasons to be cheerful!”.

For the first week, we will be focusing on the past 12 months and highlighting the unseen heroes who have worked throughout the pandemic. Whether that be in a voluntary or key worker capacity we will pay tribute to those who have worked day-in day-out to ensure that front line services continue to be delivered, food and products are on the shelves and that the economy can still tick along through things like construction. If you’d like to nominate a person, group, company or organisation then please email rtbc@alittlebitofstone.com

We also want to spotlight the schools, teaching staff, support staff, pupils and adults who have all contributed to ensuring that children’s learning has still continued despite the lockdowns when many children had to learn remotely. Schools have remained open throughout, with staff having to split their time between teaching the children of the key workers as well as supporting the remote learning of pupils at home.

Finally, for this week we are championing the “Stone Spring Clean” in which we want to encourage members of the town to take care of their own patch with a community spring clean over the weekend of the 20th/21st March. Here we want to encourage people using their exercise time to pick litter in their local area, give their street signs a wipe down, push a broom down the path outside their house and let us know about anything that may need a tidy up. Have you seen some graffiti that needs removing? Email rtbc@alittlebitofstone.com with things that need attending to and we’ll do our best to work to get our town looking spick and span!

The Stone Town Promotion Group sees Stone as the hidden gem in Staffordshire and we hope over the next 4 weeks we can make it sparkle and shine for everyone to see.
