As Stone Is Where The Heart Is – Traders Group gears up for its 2025/2026 membership renewal, the team is celebrating another busy year filled with events, improvements, and growing community spirit. The group, made up of independent businesses in Stone town centre, has become a familiar name for residents and visitors alike – working hard to keep the high street welcoming and lively.

With over 60 businesses now working together, the group has become a vital part of Stone’s thriving town centre.

A collaborative effort to keep Stone thriving

The Traders Group is open to any independent business based in the town centre and works on an affordable, annual membership model. For just £60 a year, members gain access to a supportive network of fellow businesses, collaborative marketing opportunities, and involvement in popular events that draw footfall into the town.

Beyond the businesses themselves, residents can also show support by following the Stone Is Where The Heart is Facebook page. It’s the best place to keep up to date with events, promotions, and initiatives – all aimed at encouraging people to shop local and celebrate everything Stone has to offer.

A look back at 2024 – a year of community action

Over the past year, the Traders Group has been at the centre of several key projects that have made a real difference to the look and feel of the town, while also boosting business for local traders.

Some of the highlights include:

  • Town clean-up projects – With support from its members, the group funded a local gardening expert to brighten up the High Street and surrounding areas, helping to create a welcoming atmosphere for both shoppers and visitors.
  • Community events – Working alongside the Stone Food & Drink Festival team, the group hosted popular events such as Stone Street Food and the Stone Sunday Series, including the crowd-pleasing Four Wheel Festival. These events brought visitors from across the region, giving local traders a valuable boost.
  • Seasonal celebrations – The group was behind well-loved events like the Halloween Festival, where the High Street was packed with stalls, entertainment and family activities, as well as the Christmas Markets in November and December. With local shops extending their hours, these events created a festive atmosphere across the town centre.
  • Strengthening community connections – The group has facilitated meetings with MP Sir Gavin Williamson and representatives from local councils. These collaborations have strengthened community ties and led to initiative proposals like spearheading two hours of free parking to encourage more visitors to the town centre.
  • Online engagement – The Stone Is Where The Heart Is Facebook page continues to grow, helping the group connect directly with residents and visitors, spreading the word about upcoming events and sharing promotions from its members.
  • Securing extra support – The group has also successfully applied for council grants, funding campaigns that promote Stone as a fantastic destination for shopping, dining and exploring.

Exciting plans for 2025/2026

Looking ahead, the group is keen to build on the momentum and bring even more businesses and residents together.

Some of the plans already in motion include:

  • Flexible membership payments – To make membership accessible for all businesses, the £60 annual fee can now be spread across the year with new payment options.
  • Networking and collaboration – Regular quarterly networking meetings will be held, giving local traders the chance to share ideas, work on joint projects, and discuss how best to support the town.
  • Stone Town Business Awards – A brand-new initiative launching in 2025 will celebrate the outstanding contributions of its member businesses.
