David Patrick, singer and guitarist from the local soul tribute The Lack of Commitments, will be releasing a new album this Saturday 10th July called Stone Ville under the name of Stone Ville.
Stone Ville is a new album written and conceived by David Patrick and each of the album’s twelve tracks features an eclectic twist across the many musical genres. David said was keen to explain this further: “It’s eclectic in that it goes from indie rock to country, from prog to folk, from pop to ballad. There’s something here for everyone.“
The album was recorded at Stone’s Tower Studios and will be released this Saturday, the 10th of July. The album will be available across all of the major streaming platforms as well as the artist’s site on Bandcamp – Stone Ville.
To support the launch there will be three Facebook video premieres at 7pm, 8pm & 9pm to coincide with the launch of the album, you can find the album’s Facebook page –> here.
David explained a little more about the album:
“This is not a solo album, nor is it a debut album. I set out to put together some of the best musicians I’ve worked with over the years. To that end, the album features performances from 30 musicians. Some local names, some from my current working band The LOC [Lack of Commitments] and some well-known musicians from my time in Hertfordshire.
If you can imagine an album with seven lead singers and as many lead guitarists and soloists then you can begin to understand the nature. Dave (Marks) producer has done an amazing job of keeping a solid thread through the album sonically.
I moved to Stone in 2015 from St Albans, leaving behind a lot of things. I’d been playing covers every week with my band The Love Junkies but was looking for a new direction and also a chance to do something original again. Some of the songs I’d written with Camden’s Clem Anderson were still burning and wouldn’t leave my focus. I think a part of me knew that they were too good not to record so I set about planning how to get these completed. Also, an earlier collaboration from the Sellaband project with Annie Bacon was awaiting some proper treatment. However, I was also planning to form the Lack of Commitments, finding singers and players from the area through open mic sessions and watching the Revellers in Stone.
Whilst wondering what to call the project I stumbled across a piece of graffiti down by the canal, simply read “Stone Ville”. No other context. I snapped it and banked it. I can’t claim any responsibility for the graffiti or the name, just for me, it seemed to fit. Along with my move up here and a new chapter in my life. And so Stone Ville was born and I set about getting the job done.”
David explains further about the people featured on and involved in the making of the album:
Over thirty musicians have been involved with Stone Ville.
Notably, producer Dave Marks and mixing engineer Jo Webb have ensured the album is a polished production. Dave is a multi-instrumentalist who has worked with Don Airey, Hans Zimmer, and Rick Parfitt Junior. Jo has produced many albums including singer-songwriter Paul Canning and Iain Hornal. He performed with ELO on keyboards on Jeff Lynne’s ELO Tour 2019.
Other fantastic musicians on the album are drummer Paul Stewart from pop band The Feeling, Jon Finnigan (drums), Simon McBride (guitar), Matt Park (slide guitar), Alex Reeves – drums from Elbow, Tim Sandiford (guitar), Jake Willson (guitar), Andy Doble (keys) from Toyah, Nathan Dawe (bass), Dave Marks and also Jo Webb.
Camden’s Clem Anderson on vocals wrote four of the songs on the album with David. A chance collaboration with US singer Annie Bacon lead to the wonderful ‘So Much That I Don’t Know’.
Many Staffordshire musicians were recruited to contribute. Singer-songwriter, Jay Johnson sings lead on Colours on the Wing along with local guitarist Richard Matthews on lead guitar.
It’s the integration of members of The Lack of Commitments outside of their normal soul zone that really shines. Tina Ribena sings lead on the Rain Down with Harvey Eggington on Drums and Charles Ormrod on Piano. Richard Clint Eastwood’s lead duet with Tina on pop/ country single When Will I Return. Matt Shepherd contributes Bass on Make It. Dave Wild and Tessa Foster feature on backing vocals, Flute from Calum Robarts. Ella Jane Watt on the Fleetwood Mac-esque Fears, Hopes and Dreams duets with David and solos on the ballad ‘To Die For’
