Stone win local derby to stay top of the table

Stone Dominoes LFC

Stone Dominoes Ladies 5 – Stoke Town 1: The Dominoes faced lower league Stoke Town on Sunday. With Stone top of the league by goal difference, this was a perfect match to get the Dominoes ahead on points of rivals Shrewsbury, who weren’t playing this week.

Stone scored first, with Mollie Prime calmly slotting home her first of the game, followed by Vikki Garner with a header on the back post after a Kerry McCourt corner. This was Garner’s 17th league goal in 15 games. Stoke pulled one back before the end of the half but the first half was cut short due to Stone’s captain Lauren Ward injuring her knee.

During half time Stone’s manager needed harsh words to get the players up to the standard expected. The second half saw the Dominoes dominate much of the possession, with the defenders keeping the ball and playing it round, making the Stoke Town attackers frustrated and working hard off the ball. Nat Price scored Stone’s third of the game when a Holly Fowell corner floated into the box, Stoke Town defender headed back to the keeper but Nat Price flicked the ball over her hands to make it 3-1.
