Stonefield Park to showcase floral tribute to mark Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Stonefield ParkA floral tribute to mark the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth ll will take centre stage at the award-winning Stonefield Park in Stone.

The flowers in the carpet beds at Stonefield Park in Stone and Victoria Park in Stafford will replicate the official emblem that has been created to celebrate the 70 years Her Majesty has been on the throne.

The bed in Stone paid tribute to 100 years of the Royal British Legion in 2021 whilst the Victoria Park bed paid tribute to the work of the NHS, key workers and volunteers for their tireless efforts across the borough community during the pandemic.

Previous floral arrangements have honoured the armed forces as well as organisations and charities for the work they have done to benefit Stafford Borough. The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee was also celebrated in flowers. Thousands of plants are used to create the designs.

Both Stafford Borough Council run parks have been awarded a ‘Green Flag’ – the national yardstick for the best parks and open spaces in the country.

Councillor Carolyn Trowbridge, Cabinet Member for Leisure at the borough council said:

“Our carpet beds in Stonefield and Victoria Park are always a wonderful attraction and admired by the tens of thousands of residents and visitors every year.

“And I expect this year’s floral creation, dedicated to our longest-reigning monarch as she celebrates her Platinum Jubilee, will be extra special for those who enjoy the beauty of these award-winning parks.”

Councillor Trowbridge added:

The people of our borough have a deep affection for Her Majesty and this was clearly demonstrated when she visited the county town in 2006 to mark the 800th anniversary of the granting of the Royal Charter with many thousands welcoming her.”
