Stone’s Member of the Youth Parliament joined hundreds of other MYPs on Friday 29th October in a special debate in the House of Commons.
Charlotte Kelly from Stone, a student at Alleynes High School, represents the West Staffordshire constituency, which covers Stone and Stafford. She debated issues including university tuition fees and sex education in schools. The issues up for discussion had been voted for by thousands of young people across the country.
This was the second time that Members of the Youth Parliament had debated in the House of Commons. Earlier this year, MPs voted to allow MYPs to debate in the Commons chamber every year for the duration of this Parliament.
Charlotte was elected in February and said that she wanted to challenge people’s apathy about politics.
