Storytelling SOS to the world!

A window at The Mill restaurant from last year's Advent Windows celebration

People from all over the world who are now living in Stone are being asked to take part in a special Christmas storytelling project in the town.

Instead of carols like last year, this year’s Advent Window is focusing on Christmas stories from around the world. In the build-up to Christmas, shops and businesses will decorate their windows and open them on a different day in December, with a story told to mark each opening.

So far, organisers Pam and David Pott have found people in the town from Indonesia, Holland, Italy and Wales. But lots more nationalities are still required!

Are you from, or do you know anyone from, any of these countries who’s be willing to take part?

  • France / Germany / Belgium / Austria / Russia / Mexico / Denmark / Czech Republic / United States / Israel / Palestine / Turkey
Please call Pam Pott on 01785 286474 or 07932 790525

The first Christmas story from the Bible will be told in the first eight windows. The other stories from 14 different countries will include Leo Tolstoy’s Papa Panov and The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Anderson.

An unusual window will focus on the story of the Christmas Truce in the First World War. Once again, schools, youth clubs and other organisations are partnering with some of the shops to create the windows.

On Christmas Eve there will be a carol singing and storytelling journey through the town, starting at 9.30am and finishing at Christ Church at 11am for the opening of the final window by the Bishop of Stafford.

I’m a storyteller living in Wales, and read of the Stone Advent Windows on the Society for Storytelling email list.  What a great idea!  I think this will be marvellous, and I wish a very Happy Christmas to all the busy window dressers -and window admirers of Stone.
    Thank you
