Strange case of granny-napping in Oulton…

The Oulton scarecrow before she mysteriously disappeared…

There has been a case of granny-napping in the sleepy village of Oulton.

Over 20 scarecrows appeared in the village at the end of June as part of a competition, with the winner being announced at the village fete on Saturday 13th July.

One of them – ‘Doris on the Rocker’ – went missing last weekend and a ransom note has been left in her place. Doris was enjoying a glass of wine and reading her novel in St John’s Lane when she was cruelly spirited away. All that is left is an empty rocking chair and her slippers.

The owners of Doris said: “Doris has been kidnapped, probably kids having a laugh. Her shoes and legs have been recovered, but now she’s legless and lost. We put up a couple of missing notices and this morning found a ransom note asking for £25 in used £1 notes. We refuse to pay on principle, and our supply of £1 notes is as limited as our supply of ten shilling notes, but we’re happy to go along with turning a tragedy into a bit of fun. If anyone finds Doris, we’d love to have her back.”
