Students from Stone’s Trinity Skills For Life will be unveiling a special friendship garden they’ve spent the last 12 months creating for elderly residents in the town.
Students from Trinity’s Club 101 fundraising committee received a grant from the Staffordshire Community Wellbeing Fund last August and have created the garden at Summer Field Court for the older residents there to enjoy.
An opening ceremony will be held at Summer Field Court – in Altona Place, off Lichfield Road – on Wednesday 4th July from 11am to 2pm.
Janet Mason from Trinity Skills for Life said: “We asked local poets to write poetry for the garden on the theme of friendship and the students have etched them into wood. They have worked with three craftspeople and staff and volunteers at Trinity Work Skills to make arbours, seats, mobiles and other decorative items, including a living willow arbour and sheep!
“We have entered the garden for the Royal Horticultural Society Community Garden in Bloom competition (as part of Stone in Bloom). Our students are all aged 18 to 30 with learning disabilities. They have tremendous skills now and are so happy to share these skills with others in the community. The mayor of Stone will be with us and we will have lovely cake! Everyone is welcome and admission is free.”
