Staff and students at Stone’s Rooftop Studios are celebrating not one – but two – students landing roles in professional productions over the festive period.
9-year-old Maria Kelly is one of just six local young performers chosen to join the ‘The Young Company’ production of Alice in Wonderland at The New Vic. The initiative offers youngsters the chance to work with theatre industry professionals to develop their performance skills and perform in front of an audience.
Maria, who attends Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, Vocal Smash, Acting Through Song, Lamda, Stage Academy, Street Dance, Rock & Pop School, and Acro classes at the studio, will perform as part of an ensemble of ‘Flower Ballerinas’, school children and a smaller version of Alice; making full use of the skills she has honed at Rooftop Studios since she first joined baby dance classes at just six months old.
Meanwhile, it’s Panto fun for 15-year-old Ruby Twigg, who attends Gold Jazz, Grade 4 tap, grade 5 ballet, intermediate ballet, performance troupe and grade 5 modern dance and who is also a student teacher at the studio. Ruby has successfully auditioned for Stafford Gatehouse’s 2022 Pantomime Cinderella and will perform throughout the Christmas period alongside a celebrity cast.

“We can’t wait to see Maria and Ruby perform in their professional shows – we are hugely proud of them both for their achievements. They are both hard-working, dedicated and not to mention very talented young ladies who thoroughly deserve their success and are a real asset to the school.”
Alice in Wonderland will run at The New Vic Theatre from Friday 18 November–Saturday 28 January 2023.
