Successful return of jazz to The Red Lion

The Paul Matthews Trio at The Red Lion in February

The return of the ‘Jazz in Stone’ night to The Red Lion pub in the High Street at the end of February was a big success, and details of the next three nights are now available.

Andy Burdon, one of the organisers, said: “The Red Lion was packed on Monday 24th February to see the return of ‘Jazz in Stone’ to the popular town pub. Guitarist Paul Matthews and his trio played to an appreciative crowd of jazz fans who have been deprived of live jazz in the town for a few months while the club has been looking for a new home.

“We hope to promote live jazz in Stone on a monthly basis and have lined up the following gigs for the future:

Monday 7th April – multi-reedsman Chris Gumbley

Monday 12th May – fine singer and saxophonist Patsy Gamble Trio

Monday 9th June – tenor sax-man The Charlie Wright Quartet

Music starts at 9pm and admission is free, though a raffle will be held to cover expenses”
